Brain Fog and Decision Paralysis: When My Brain Won’t Brain
Why are decisions so hard sometimes?
Story Time
After I had my first C-section, the nurse told me to push the button every time the light came on so I did exactly what she told me to do. Light came on I pushed the button. Light came on I pushed the button. When I got to my room, they wanted me to eat something. I was vegetarian at the time and I’m looking at my choices: chicken broth or vegetable broth. By this point, I was so high I couldn’t figure it out. I knew there was only one right answer but which one? They took away my button and chastised me for hitting it too much. Hey! I just followed the directions exactly as they were told.
You know, I would say this is a perfect example of autistic literal thinking but I don’t really see how else I was supposed to take it. You’re a nurse and therefore I should follow your instruction…*shrugs*
Anywho, after my husband stopped laughing, he picked the vegetable broth for me.
Sometimes It’s Like That
Some days decision making is just that hard. Like I literally have two simple choices and one is extremely obvious but I can’t quite place it. I gotta say, brain fog makes my pregnancy brain, that had me putting the tv remote in the fridge and the milk in the cabinet, seem mild.
My kids will ask if they can make dinner and I can’t figure out the answer. All I have to do is look at the time, if it’s not 4 o’clock, they can go for it (I swear my youngest is a senior citizen in disguise). But I can’t figure it out. My head will sometimes flood with options but most don’t make sense. Like do I need to cook? Do I have the energy to cook? I’m exhausted so I’m not cooking and I can’t think straight, I don’t need to be working with fire (we have a gas stove). I get overwhelmed and tell them I don’t know. Sometimes they will text their dad at work or make a command decision themselves.
Yay, brain fog…
🎵 If only I had a brain🎵
Anyone else’s hamster fall off the wheel? I’d love to know I’m not alone here.
Keep going, folks.
